The addictive must-play roguelike Vampire Survivors has received all sorts of updates since its arrival on the Switch eShop and this trend is set to continue in 2025.
With thid in mind he creator Poncle is already teasing the next free update (Version 1.13) as "probably the biggest free update" the team has ever done. It's due to arrive in March, and while we don't know exactly what to expect just yet, it will apparently be worth the extended wait:
"Our last content update was way back in October last year with Ode to Castlevania. We always knew this would be our biggest expansion ever, but we didn’t predict how obsessed we’d get with adding as many characters, weapons, and references as possible (in hindsight... we totally could have predicted we'd go nuts for Castlevania). This has delayed some of our plans for content this year, but we also want to make sure our next update is worth the extended wait.
"The update will be free and available on all platforms next month. It's probably the biggest free update we've ever done, so please stay tuned for more info very soon!"
Cross-saves will also be launched alongside this next update, but the Switch won't be included. Thankfully, it's still on the way to Nintendo's current-generation platform:
"We're sorry to say that cross-save for Nintendo Switch won't be available at the same time as other platforms. We didn't manage to successfully complete the submission on time for patch 1.13, so in order to avoid further delays we have decided to release the new content anyway, and then make a hotfix as soon as possible to add cross-save.
"On the bright side, once this submission is done successfully, it should also help speeding-up the future submission for Online mode, that should arrive later this year."
So, there you go - look forward to a big free update in March. If you haven't already played this game, be sure to check out our review here on Nintendo Life. We also reviewed the Castlevania DLC, which was released last year.
Are you still playing Vampire Survivors on the Switch? How else would you like to see this game evolve? Let us know in the comments.

The game is a blast, and they are way too generous. Feel like I am ripping someone off, but then I do own it for three platforms...
Will it finally add vampires to the game?!
Wait, this game is getting an online mode? I would LOVE that! This his one of those games that begs to have multiplayer. ^^
@Shepdawg1 I wonder if they'll keep doing this particular gag since the Castlevania DLC added quite a few of them (though we are yet to find THE vampire from the title screen).
Anyway, if the game gets a proper Switch 2 version and crossplay works as intended, I'll probably double-dip so my file isn't stuck on my Series S.
Guess I'll be going back to this game again soon. lol
I. Literally. JUST. Finished. 100-percenting the game. AGAIN. With all the new Castlevania DLC. I have 500 hours in this game. I thought I was done.
I THOUGHT I WAS DONE
This game is so fun and so cheap it feels like a crime.
This game just keeps on giving. Makes me happy. Much respect to these developers!
Very good game. I’ll be happy getting this D.L.C.
Fun for a while. This game is an utter waste of time after that while.
It's more of an arcade game with progression than a roguelike. There's not really anything about it that makes it a roguelike, so it seems weird to categorise it as one.
Great little game with a ton of content for the price, though- respect to the developer!
I want it, I don't know what it is yet, but I still want it. I hope it's Magical girls update with Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Saint Tail, Pretty Cure, Mermaid Melody and Tokyo Mew Mew! Chances are slim but it's 2025, weirder things happened
@fabiop it is and we love it
Ooh, looking forward to seeing what will be included in this "biggest free update" (and of course playing it myself when I finally start Vampire Survivors) - unfortunate that cross-save won't be available at the same time on Switch, but glad to hear that it's just a matter of time!
Like, the biggest update ever for the game, or the biggest update in the history of gaming?
@Princess_Lilly I also loved it, but then I realized it was a waste of time of a game... addictive to the extreme, empty to the extreme. Not surprised that the programmer comes from the gaming industry, many similar psycological dynamics you have in gambling.
I bought this game a few weeks ago and had a lot of fun first but stopped pretty early because i felt that at a certain point it wasn't really difficult or engaging? With most rounds after 10 minutes or so i can just idle for most of the game and run in circles to collect diamonds, but it's not engaging at all. Am i doing something wrong? Because the game is super popular and i just don't seen to get it
I never did pick up the Contra and Castlevania DLC, should probably get around to that. Kind of been waiting until the mood strikes me to get back into it.
@LikelySatan I feel the same towards no man's sky.
I love this game so much but sometimes I feel like I’m pausing nonstop to try and figure out the configurations I need to get the upgraded weapons. And almost always getting online to find out what I need to use.
I know there’s the joy of discovery but honestly I’d love an option toggle to just have all the combo portions filled out so all i have left to do is match and level them up to see what they =.
And some better time options other than just speeding it up with the EXP getting messed with. 🙏.
The free demo thing on the Nintendo online thing finally convinced me to buy this game, because apparently $4 or whatever was WAY too expensive for me. But then I of course bought all the DLC, too. Hey, why not??? It's not like my backlog will notice. Even though I'll never play it all, it's a great game and I don't regret my purchase!
@JJtheTexan This is the way
@Ensemen The later levels and DLC do a really good job of switching up the difficulty as you get further into the round. The Contra levels are especially harrowing
@fabiop It’s infinitely replayable. There is much joy from choosing entirely random or seemingly contradictory builds just to find you survive by the skin of your teeth. It’s also fun to limit yourself to one main weapon and see how far you get, for instance. The game rewards creativity of mashing styles and different powerups together, and it must be said the music is excellent especially since adding Castlevania to the fray. There is also essentially three different versions of every song in the game.
@beltmenot Or Hollow Knight.
This would be a great game for a Physical Nintendo Switch Release.. all complete on Cartridge edition
