Hershey, the American confectionary company, has teamed up with The Pokémon Company to launch a new range of Hershey's Kisses.
Based on the original 151 Pokémon from the days of Red and Blue, the Kisses will be wrapped in special collectable foil that kind of, sort of look like Pokéballs. Underneath, you'll find an image of one Pokémon from the original line-up per chocolate.
Ashley Reeb, Senior Associate Brand Manager at The Hershey Company, said the following:
"Our collaboration with Pokémon combines the timeless appeal of Hershey's Kisses chocolates with the joy of discovery and collecting — making it more than just a treat. The special-edition foils may spark a little friendly competition but also unite fans around their love for milk chocolate and Pokémon."
So what's the deal here, exactly? Is Hershey essentially encouraging folks to keep the chocolates as they are, fully wrapped and never to be eaten? Or can you carefully unwrap them and keep the foil intact? Hmm... Quite bizarre, if you ask us.
Well, it sounds like some might like to keep the chocolates completely unopened, as Hershey is also launching a special, limited edition case in which to house your collection. These are to be sold on a first come, first served basis, and it sounds like you'll need both a 'Hersheyland' and Pokémon to nab one (because we need s for everything these days, right?).
If the Kisses don't appeal, Hershey is also launching Pokémon-themed chocolate bars, with 12 designs available for the full-size bar, and 18 available for the snak-size bar.
Over on the new Switch 2, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet received a free update to bring the games' performance up to a more acceptable standard. One could argue that it still looks a bit rubbish, but they at least run much better now.
Will you be grabbing any Pokémon-themed Hershey's Kisses? Or do the standard bars appeal a bit more? Let us know.

What a shame that hershey chocolate tastes like garbage.
I know the Americans call it chocolate, but is it really? It's a bit like their idea of football - it's anything but foot to ball.
Yeah, don't get chocolates as collectibles at all myself (of course collectibles in addition to chocolate, sweets etc. is a completely different matter, always loved those) - that said, I hope those going for these will enjoy them!
this whole thing is so incredibly 90s.
Collectable rubbish? Sorry but this idea is flawed from jump... why not do something like the candy comes in a container with a blind bag pokemon figure or so... this is asking people to collect the foil from under sweets? Most would just take this off and chuck it in a bin.... wonder if people see value in this stuff would it lead to collectors rooting around in the bin to dig out other peoples wrappers.
It’s fitting that games that act like they running in Alpha team up with a chocolate maker that makes chocolate that tastes like it’s running in Alpha.
@Banksie ironically, there's nothing alpha about the chocolate. Sigma omega 🤣
If there's one brand where I agree with the rest of the world on the quality of American chocolate, it's Hershey's. Despite what the ingredients lists say, I have a hard time believing there's any actual cocoa in there.
Hershey's - gross.
Original 151 - boring.
Pokemon printed on base - lame.
Collectable case - why?
I want Guylian to do a collab where they're shaped like Omanytes and Shellders and Luvdiscs.
Lindor is clearly the best chocolate.
And are in balls; perfect to make pokeballs.
It's the Pocahontas and Lion King disney chocolate bars of the 90's all over again. I love it!
~Some of the best chocolate I had as a kid, only because of memories
That huge collectible case to keep melting chocolates in is making my Labo seem like a wise investment.😂
Hershey's is revolting, and that's before I even get to their "chocolate".
It's disheartening to see Pokémon collaborate with these morally bankrupt companies.
Pfft, where's my Cadbury Diglett fudge!!
Only the original 151? sigh Soooo boring.
Also, I only really eat dark chocolate, so...
Looks dumb but reminds of me the odd food tie-ins we had in the first era and they made a choice that will infuriate people and will somehow absurdly view it as a threat or insult so I’m in full of these nasty chocolates.
As an American with not many options for chocolate, I think they're just fine, although I definitely won't use the wrappers as collectibles.
I wanted the bowl, not the box
Do they not make enough money from collecting Pokemon cards? Why would their next move be to make collectible candy wrappers? What is this lol
As tempting as it is, I'll have to on this. I'm trying to significantly cut back on my carb and sugar intake under the assumption that I might be diabetic. When I was in the ER a few weeks ago, my bloodwork showed that my blood glucose level was 101; I hadn't eaten in several hours, so for it to be that high really worried me.
So I've been trying to watch what I eat since then, cutting out sweets almost entirely and doing fruits and vegetables. But as it turns out, the fruits and vegetables I have been eating (carrots, bananas, and apples) are also high in carbs. Diabetics can only have 10% of their daily caloric intake from carbohydrates, so I need to cut back even further. It's going to mainly be leafy greens like spinach, garlic, and watermelon for me going forward, as those are low in carbs.
I won't know anything more until August when I go see my doctor for my annual physical. Once I get bloodwork done again and they can see my A1C levels (which, for those who don't know, is a measure of your blood glucose level over time), I'll have a better idea of whether I have diabetes or not.
But for the time being, I am treating myself as if I am, if only so I can prevent it in the future if I am actually not. And if I am, I will gladly sign up for clinical trials for the CRISPR-Cas9 gene therapy treatment in an attempt to reverse it, even if I have to go to another country to do so.
I don't want my life to be governed by this disease like it governs everyone on my father's side of the family, so anything I can do to prevent or reverse it, I am all for.
I'm guessing someone will sell them at a ridiculous price once the limited time event has ed at an auction.
@Dazman what makes it not chocolate?
And here I am snacking on sweet and salty peanut butter imagining that it's actually Pokemon chocolate. Oh and a cup of earl grey chai.
American chocolate? Yuck. Why don't I just eat some mud? It will taste about the same.
Hershey's taste so gross and left a bad after taste
Who's dumb idea was it to make food that expires into a collectable?!?!? And not the fake, cute kind?
That's not gonna last a summer, I can tell you that...
@8bitKirby Legal requirement in the US for milk chocolate is about 10% cacao. I think Hershey is around 11% (It varies by company and product). Most other countries it is much higher. Also the butyric acid (natural product of the milk cooking/shelf stabilization process) in it has a taste and smell association of “vomit” to some. Especially if you didn’t grow up on it.
Like as an American I can tell the difference and often prefer european or japanese chocolate but I don’t think hershey’s or other local chocolate brands taste bad. The rest of it is “let’s pile on the US generalizations” (the US isn’t a utopia/great by any means, but some folks act like their history books aren’t full of atrocities too or that their people can’t be rude). I do acknowledge that most folks from the US got a very edited (if not false) history education but no need to be an arse about it.
