You'll need to grab a total of 3,000 coins to nab every in-game vehicle, which in standard play might take quite a while depending on how often you're able to dive in for a race. However, it seems some Mario Kart World players have found a pretty solid way to farm coins and unlock every kart pretty quickly.
We say "quickly", but it seems pretty tedious to us. Essentially, there's a vehicle driving around the world that constantly spits coins out of its backside. So all you need to do is hop into Free Roam (press '+' on the main menu), track down the vehicle, and follow it around for a while.
Does it take all the fun out of it? Yeah, in our opinion, it probably does. But if you're someone who simply has to have every kart unlocked as quickly as possible, then this is definitely a viable option.
Or you can just keep playing the game naturally and you'll likely find that those coins will start piling up pretty quickly anyway. Up to you!
We'll have our final verdict on Mario Kart World very soon, but for the time being, check out our Review in Progress if you're keen to see what we think so far.
Will you be trying out this little trick? Or are you quite happy to just play the game normally? Share your thoughts with a comment down below.

I don't see the point in going out of your way to farm coins. 3k coins happens pretty quickly just from normal gameplay.
Pretty sure this was only shared as a joke. No one would actually try to farm coins like this when you can just get to 3000 by playing normally.
that's certainly one way to waste your day away!
I'll just play normally and unlock everything as I go. This seems a bit much on the nose.
It might be easy but it isn't fun IMO. I'm enjoying taking my time to unlock everything and am so glad all the character weren't available from the start like in MK8dx
Yeah no, I'd rather have fun while playing the game regularly to collect coins to unlock the vehicles (speaking of, so glad that everything else is unlocked in different ways) - that said, it's worth mentioning that you can do it also this way so thanks for mentioning it!
@Suketoudara seconded! Playing to unlock characters is half the fun for me!
But … there’s stacks of coins around in Free Roam, even a pyramid of coins I found on a cliff side (can’t how it was) so I’m good thanks.
I did see Mario driving around the course in Free Roam though, anyone know why that is?
Call me that person. This is one of the first things I did. It also gave me a good tour of the Kart World. May not be fore everyone, there's plenty of characters and other things to unlock while playing.
oh yeah I found that vehicle when I was driving around in Free Roam mode, I followed it for a bit to get the coins but I got bored quickly, I'd rather just get the coins through Grand Prix cups or finding those coin stacks in Free Roam even if it might take a bit longer to unlock every kart
I've been driving around looking for Peach Coins and ? s and have found well over 3000 coins just doing that.
Take two players into free roam, park one in front of the coin car, then move the other behind it and just forward and reverse for 30ish minutes. It's boring, but it works. I only did this because I have a Mario Kart tournament night planned this week with friends and wanted to have every kart unlocked for them, otherwise I would just be playing the game to unlock stuff. Hoping to find a way to get all of the mob/NPC characters unlocked that doesn't just involve RNG with Kamek.
@Riff-the-Don
They all drive around in free roam
@Kazman2007
Just so you know, "!" "?" And Princess Coins only unlock stickers
@ThisisJosh
Where is Kamek?
He isn't a Racer...
Have people been playing this game so much already that they need to be able to drive 30 different carts from the get go or is there some great god Kart that you can only drive after unlocking the first 30?
I'm not saying 1 Kart is all I need but I feel like after only 5 days of playing 3 or 4 would still be enough. Unless there is some unbeatable invulnerable 100% victory flaming Bowser shell god Kart waiting for me, then yeah, maybe I'm in a rush.😂
@Spider-Kev The rare Kamek orb item pickup. When used, it temporarily turns a few racers in front of you into NPC characters. And if a racer didn't already have the character they turned into unlocked, it unlocks it for them.
Nintendo: bet. We'll patch this out
No need, I already have over 4k coins without grinding for them.
I'm not that far off 3000 coins without even trying, im pretty sure knockout mode counts more than the maximum 20 coins you can finish with as I always seem to get a new vehicle after a race
@Spider-Kev That's fine, it's about the journey, not the destination.
It's too easy to unlock all the vehicles in this game.
I unlocked all of them really quickly just by playing normally.
Reminder that some people legitimately spun the hamster wheel for all the coins in Super Paper Mario instead of playing the actual level.
I will say, there is an easier way. On top of the bridge that connects Crown City to Faraway Oasis there’s a 100 coin pile. Then just exit out and close the game, reopen it, and the coins spawn back.
Once again, this game is not worth $80 or even the $50 in the Bundle!
I followed that car for a little while naturally but got bored. I prefer to just wander around. There is so much to see, after all. tons of coins in the live world.
also the amount of times I was like “OMH you can do that?!” from just noodling around has me in awe of this game.
I hope they patch this out by having the car blow up after a certain point.
I did the same for a few minutes following the one that drags three coins behind it. They respawn quickly so it was not tough and might even be slower. Obviously it was super boring though so I will go ahead and just play normally!
@Spider-Kev I can see your point about it not being worth $80, but it is well worth $50 to me!! Super fun and Knockout Tour alone is one of the most enjoyable things ever! 😊

You really don't need this trick lol, you'll have 3000 in no time just playing normally. I picked up a lot of those big coin piles when unlocking all of the costumes in free roam.
World has a lot of these mini challenges that start to get repetitive real fast, and the rewards don't really compel me to search them out. Meanwhile the game has so much unlockable content through straight up baffling means, a lot of which requiring trial and error / RNG.
Feels like they could've solved two problems here by segmenting the challenges into tiers, that yield greater rewards based off its challenge level (easy challenges give you a sticker, harder ones unlock costumes, karts, extra characters).
But no, seems every idea this game has likes to remain in its own realm of existence and doesn't interact much with any other idea. What in the world were they thinking with this one?
I've gotten over 10k coins just from playing over the weekend, Not gone grinding them, they are just everywhere.
For those of us with kids/fiesty unpredictable slaves, I’d just get them to do this
Honestly? I felt like I got 3000 coins and all karts in no time, just from playing normally.
Getting every racer via Kamek, on the other hand…
I think I would rather play the game for fun and earn the coins over time. We haven't gotten a new Mario Kart game in a very long time. There isn't much reason to rush the enjoyment of this one.
Hope this is a joke, go have a little fun. Played some couch multi-player and have been unlocking things naturally, not everything in the world needs to be hyper optimized. Explore, enjoy, compete, get better, love, live, kart! Game is a blast.
I do wish characters had heavy options sidewinder is so damn cute but I like heavier drivers/karts...oh well
I thought the unlocks ended too quickly in MK8, so I'm content to avoid this shortcut. I don't mind not having everything unlocked, as long as I get there eventually.
