In case you missed it, Splatoon 3 has been updated to version 10.0.0, bringing with it a whole bunch of new content, but also improving the game's visuals and performance for those playing on Switch 2.
But how has it been improved, exactly? Well, the above video should clear things up quite nicely for you. We're mainly looking at bumps in resolution and frame rate, and this is perhaps most obvious within the Splatsville hub area, which notably at a stable, albeit sluggish 30fps on the Switch.
This has been increased significantly on the Switch 2, and the smooth gameplay looks like a real treat on Nintendo's new console.

We also see gameplay from the standard Turf War battle along with the Salmon Run mode, so there's plenty to dive into here to see exactly how the game has been improved from Switch 1.
In other news, it's also been confirmed that a Splatoon spin-off game, titled Splatoon Raiders, will be making its way to the Switch 2. Very little is known about the project so far, but it looks to be a single-player story-focused experience in which you take on the role of a mechanic investigating a mysterious island alongside Deep Cut.
What do you make of the Splaton 3 improvements on Switch 2? Has this convinced you to dive back into the ink? Let us know with a comment.

Splatoon is the best Shooter in the world.
It’s beautiful! I love that the entire game is now consistently 60fps, no more jarring transition between stages and hub world anymore. Fantastic.
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS OLLLLLLIIIEEEEEEEEEE! (I like Splatoon 3)
Love to see it for those playing Splatoon 3 - looking forward to finally playing it myself at some point (in my case for its single-player content first and foremost if not exclusively, but still)!
no improving those golum varmit looking things
That's a really cool video and updates like this really make me wonder what is going on in with people who comment things like "Well I have loads of Switch 1 games still to play before worrying about getting a Switch 2" I mean.... play that same library with massive upgrades to every single piece of software? Outside of budget there is zero reason for someone to stay on Switch 1 right now.
Interesting situation Nintendo have got themselves in here.
On one hand they have a load of free patches making a decent difference to a number of games, on the other hand they want to charge you for others plus a bit more content. Tricky line to tread me thinks especially for BotW and TotK which are basically a pretty bare bones patch.
Be interesting to see what they do with Xenoblade - those games need some help.
Hopefully third party companies will also update their Switch versions like this. Whether free or not, I'm game.
Not a Splatoon guy in the slightest, but happy for everyone who is that has a Switch 2.
I'd personally love updates to Skyrim, Doom, all Xenoblade games and Witcher 3.
The beauty of rock solid 60 fps is underrated.
I'm so happy with this update. Splatoon 3 has always performed really well on Switch, but the Switch 2 improvements make it feel incredible. I spend most of my gaming time playing this title, so I'm really grateful for this performance patch.
@Stormcloudlive this is the primary reason I was so eager to a switch 2 ASAP.
@Jack_Goetz haven’t had the chance to play it yet, but that sounds promising. My Switch 2 should be arriving shortly, looking forward to it!
@Stormcloudlive Budget is a huge reason for many people.
Seeing stuff like this makes me wonder whether I should splash some dough and get this game...
@Pillowpants i got it 37.99 from argos yesterday so definitely worth it!
@Stormcloudlive I bought my Switch 2 mostly for the reason of playing my huge backlog of Switch 1 games. Honestly there's a lot about the Switch 2 I don't like, but it's a perfect "Switch Pro"...
@Pillowpants Splatoon games have always been a lot of fun. I played Splatoon 2 a lot more than 3, but it’s fantastic. Totally worth it!
@Cipher36 Out of interest, what don’t you like? Enjoying mine so far, but the short battery life is my only real gripe (20,000mAh Power Bank arriving today)
I'm starting to really like this new tech-forward Nintendo. Never played Splatoon before, but might check it out now.
@Stormcloudlive It actually makes me feel excited about going through my backlog, rather than 'Ah, I really should get around to that'. I'm having fun revisiting games too.
The Splatoon update does feel like a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which is great, especially for free and benefiting Switch 1 owners at the same time.
@Jack_Goetz I started up Splatoon 3 for the first time on Switch 2 earlier, wasn’t sure if the updates it ed was the Switch 2 one or just previous updates. Was immediately obvious upon starting up though, is it known what resolution it’s running at in TV mode?
I was reluctant to play Splatoon 3 on Switch 2 because of my misgivings with the handheld battery life, but the tradeoff is worth it. This game stuns on S2. I can't go back now!
The snappy loading, glossier visuals and smooth hubs are all great. I low how quick it is to get back to the hub from Side Order, like waking up from a dream.
My son is really invested in Splatoon 3 at the minute, I mean loving it all over again. So excited for Christmas for him to get the benefit of playing on Switch 2!
I picked this up when it first came out, and really enjoyed it. I haven't played it in a good little bit, but I think I might start it back up now
Just a question - I havent played Splatoon yet, but Im considering it with the new upgrade: does it make sense to jump in or just wait for the Splatoon 4?
@Dev-N Are you using gyro in handheld?
@Pickettfury Yes, I use gyro on TV and handheld. Can't imagine going without it.
I ed the update and logged in last night just to check it out briefly and even just seeing how smooth the Anarchy Splatcast was, I was blown away
@hegelka Nintendo bringing back for a game they ended service for last year is a strong indication that a Splatoon 4 is far away, at least 1 year at minimum, possibly 2.
@Res462 The impact of budget was overstated by people on forums, comments, and Reddit. Stop it. Switch 2 had the biggest console launch in the history of gaming. People are buying it and they're not fazed by their "budgets."
@Skunkfish I don't believe there's an official statement about the new resolution. We might have to wait for a Digital Foundry breakdown.
@ZonaiResearcher Not that. People have been saving up for it for a while. I just barely was able to get a switch 2 from Best Buy’s restock, and I have almost no (non-emergency fund) money left.
Where's mah beats!-DJ Octavio
@ZonaiResearcher
People complaining about a product costing too much is not the same as people being unable to afford a product because it’s out of their budget.
The people priced out by the cost are probably too busy working to moan about it online.
I can't wait to see how beautiful the hubs will be during the Summer Nights Splatfest. I already thought the bubbles looked nifty on Switch 1 last year!
So nice to play Nintendo studio AAA games with a lot clearer image and 60fps.
Then added HDR.
Splatoon 3 which I’ve just played feels more 2025 rather than stuck back a good few years ago.
Being honest though, could have been years ago say 2022 with switch one pro.
@Jack_Goetz Yeah man, Witch 3 has moved massively up along my to-do list since hearing it's now a lot nicer experience on the Switch but I'm currently 37 shrines into Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition run.... only 3 more and I get a nice shiny (won't spoil)
I'm really looking forward to taking a look at splatoon 3 over the weekend but weirdly enough even though I've got literally hundreds of digital games... BoTW and Splat 3 are both ones I own the carts of so I have 2 games I want to play and only one cartridge slot 😅first world problems I know
@Dev-N Switch 2 loading time alone makes so many Switch 1 titles a million times more immersive now because they aren't effectively ruined by those loading times, it's incredible.
@Stormcloudlive Ha! I feel you on that. I bought Splatoon 2 on cartridge, but I learned from my mistake by the time Splatoon 3 was released. 😅
