When it comes to carry cases, many people swear by 'official' options, and with good reason; when Nintendo is tasked with making a case for its own console, you'd assume the company would produce a decent product.
That's certainly true of the official Nintendo Switch 2 Carry Case ($39.99 / £20.99), which is one of the two options currently being offered by Nintendo itself (the second is a larger, all-in-one option that costs a bit more).
Described by Nintendo as "stylish and sturdy", this case is certainly robust enough to prevent your shiny new console from bumps and scratches on the road, but it's not in the same league as the Genki Sleeper Case with its "virtually indestructible" shell.
It also loses out to Genki's offering by only having space for six Game Cards inside (the Sleeper Case has 18 slots), although the official NS2 case has a small compartment for storing items like the Joy-Con 2 wrist straps, which is a bonus.
It's also smaller than the Genki Sleeper Case, and provides a snugger fit for your Switch 2, thanks to the fact that Nintendo isn't expecting you to have an additional case (like the Genki Attack Vector) installed. Oh, and the zipper mechanism is much easier to use, too, but it doesn't provide water resistance, like on Genki's case.
While Nintendo claims this is a stylish option, I'd argue it's rather understated—which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as many people don't want to broadcast that they're carrying a game console around with them. The front of the case has the Switch 2 logo, while Nintendo's iconic logo is found on the back. The only other design element of note is the blue and orange zipper handles, which mimic the colour accents of the left and right Joy-Con 2 controllers.
You also get a screen protector bundled with this case, the installation of which is totally optional. I don't tend to bother with screen protectors as I'm super careful with my tech, but it's a handy bonus item if you find you don't feel comfortable without having one fitted.
Beyond that, there's not a lot more to add here. This is a slimline, strong and reasonably attractive case which won't totally break the bank, and I'd imagine Nintendo will sell plenty of them—but if you're looking for something that provides best-in-class protection, you might want to seek out alternative options.

Why is this so expensive in the us? Only 25€. And mostly Nintendo prizes are €=$.
@TKundNobody I believe that would be due to a thing called tariffs.
@Bigmanfan you think? I thought prices weren’t touched since the April announcement. So they calculated this higher in advance?
@TKundNobody I don't know, but the other one is $85, which seems crazy for just a case.
yes,crazy for which seems just a case
@TKundNobody Tariffs on China were still sky-high until recently, and you could argue they're still high now. And I'd wager than most or all Switch 2 accessories are manufactured in China.
I assume that's also why the new amiibo are a ridiculous $30 each here.
@TKundNobody Prices for the system were not changed. The accessories went up in price after the initial announcement.

@Bigmanfan It's a great excuse just to jack prices up. The math ain't mathin' otherwise and all the other cheap crap from China is the same price. After all, they're sold out everywhere, so Nintendo wins again. This is why in finance/economics, they say: "never let a good crisis go to waste" 👍
I was going to go with this one but went with a $15 option on Amazon that was pretty solid. I refused to pay the Nintendo tax for their official case. That is just straight up price gouging and greed no matter which way you slice it. We can sit here and blame tariffs all we want but while that would for some of the upcharge it still doesn't make sense to be paying this amount. If it truly was due to tariffs then the $15 case I got (produced in China mind you) would be much higher as well. So you can throw that little tariff argument out the window as much as you like to blame the "Orange Man" for everything...
Part of me wishes they'd pull a Valve and include the case with the system.
I'd have to say for any of my fellow Americans I personally don't think this case is worth it at the price they're selling it at ($40).
Just buy a $20 Power A case and a $5 tempered glass screen protector.
picked one of these up, just the ticket for the occasional overnight hotel stop with work!
@LinktotheFuture that's also 80€ in Europe.
@zidane4028 Thanks for the info and link!
I got a jsaux case on Amazon and a glass screen protector (idk the company) for 27$ and my case has a firm shell, room for a ton more cards, far more wiggle room for wrist straps and other small accs, and a carrying strap on the outside. Heck, if I buy a grip case (which I will, I find myself playing handheld much more than docked), it will fit too. Nintendos is so much more expensive and for less capabilities and a lesser screen protector…
It will have to do until a Switch 2 version of the grip case they had for the OG Switch was released. That was awesome. They did not update it for the OLED so I do not have my hopes up. Satisfye is good but I prefer first party or other official accessories.
They put forth a compelling case.
Appreciate all these accessory reviews.
I noticed you called it orange, and my eyes don't disagree with you, but Nintendo appears to be officially calling it light red. Still wish they'd have stuck with the shade of red from Switch 1.
The only time I can kinda sorta see the orange as a shade of red is when it's right next to the shade of red from Switch 1.
I have the Venom one. It's a perfectly good case, but I quickly realised that I completely overlooked that the Switch isn't gonna fit in there with an ergonomic grip applied, which I have also purchased... oops. So I've ordered Savage Raven Max Carry Case so I can carry it around without needing to take the grip off every time. ETA for delivery is end of June, they must be in short supply right now.
I got this case and I think it's just perfect. I was happy with the price in €, I'm sad to see so many of you having to fork over much more for these products. They are in no way worth that much
I’ve got this thing and I like it apart from 2 things
Not enough game card slots (6)
It stinks (smells bad)
When I look at the materials used, I'm forced to ask... why the heck is this 40 dollars?! I picked one up on Amazon from a brand I've never heard of for about 20 and it's working just fine
The case is much softer, compared to the one for Switch 1. This one doesn't feel as secure.
@N00BiSH
Yeah the Deck case, is great. Perfect fit and much better protection, compared to this one.
Space for 6 cartridges is fine. I wouldn’t recommend taking 18 cartridges on the go. That’s a lot of money that could get lost/stolen.
@Yosti my thoughts exactly, and i had a £10 john lewis voucher for here in blighty, so in the end it was like £12 for me. Really can't complain on that price, and already endured a 150 Mile round trip the weekend in my bag.
i bought this for my son and it looks a LOT classier then i thought. i'd bring it on a business trip
@Andee BOO.
The review could mention that the included screen protector is only plastic, not glass.
Sold out everywhere in Canada
@Automated_Unit_4937 Presumably a lot of Switch 2 owners at the grammar rodeo.
How’s it compare to Waterfield?
For $10 less ($29.99) it’s infinitely more compelling but for $19.99 it would be bought with 9 of 10 Switch units. Wild people think a plain case is worth $40.
I was disappointed with my official switch 2 case. My old switch case had enough room for loads more games, plus I could easily fit in headphones and a small usb cable along with joycon attachments. This new one is too thin for fitting much in it. Sadly don’t think I’ll keep it for long, once a few more appear on the market I’ll be replacing it.
Top tip though, old gameboy cases are great for carrying a few switch cartridges!
What I'm really looking for is a relatively dust-proof case. The review says Genki's case is water-proof, but I have a hard time finding case recommendations specifically about helping prevent dust. Would Genki's case be a good option for dust if it already is tight enough to prevent water?
Also, when you review the All-in-One carrying case @NintendoLife, could you see if it helps prevent dust? Not really sure how you would go about testing for that anyhow 😅
@Andee a lot indeed
It’s a really nice case. I use first party cases for all my Switches. The included screen protector is garbage, though. I immediately replaced it. But at least it protected the screen from the dock until a better screen protector arrived in the mail.
I am so sick of Americans complaining about paying more when you've have certain things cheaper than Europe and Oceania for decades.
@speed_loafer
This is my professional life bleeding into Nintendolife comment section… but it’s nearly identical, slightly brighter, to Benjamin Moore’s 2023 colour of the year: Raspberry Blush. Or in other words, coral pink. A blend of red, orange, and pink.
Personally, I love the Nintendo first party accessories. For Switch 2, I’ll wait until there are some unique cases.
I have the Super Mario Odyssey case (red) I picked up of local ads for $20 CAD. If I can nab a Metroid Prime 4, DK Bananza, or [Insert new Mario] themed case, sign me
up!
The original Switch case only held 6 carts as well, but the little mesh patch would also hold more carts. So I kept my top 6 in the cart sleeves and whatever else I thought I might play, in the sleeve. Truth is I never swapped that many games in a long commute, like an overseas flight. But it’s nice to have a large variety of games on hand for any occasion!
The case itself is quite good. However the protective film is not adequate. Very hard to apply without any bubbles or dust and overall clarity is not great. You'll need to buy a decent screen glass protector separately which is another £10-20. So either factor that in or buy something else which comes with a better screen protector.
@Hwatt Nice! Thanks for the professional insight.
Im waiting for a travel case release that can fit the Dock etc. 🤩
I got to buy one on D1 and probably was lucky enough to even find it available as now it's sold out anywhere. It's a pretty standard protection which is ok for most cases, and it's also cheap as it's 25€ here, considering that it's an official product.
This is also why I wouldn't pay more than 30€ for the Genki one, and I won't indeed lol
About the screen protection, the only reason why I'm not using it is because I wanted to get an anti-glare one to play in the sun (but it also comes with a downside). Otherwise, it's a pretty decent one, there's no reason why you'd need real glass lol
I now have the Belkin one (without battery) and it's very good. Perfect fit for a naked Switch 2, hard enough on the outside and soft on the inside.
@Bigmanfan Hahahahahaha! Love it, bud.
This was the only option in the store when I bought the console so I went with this. It's a quality product and the zipper is especially nice and smooth. I like things simple so I have no complaints.
edit. the screen protector is not the best and I will probably replace that in the future but for now it's doing its job
